I help adults with grief, anxiety, trauma and overwhelming emotions understand themselves, get to the root challenges of their difficulties and build optimism and resilience for the future. Together, the aim is to help you develop a greater understanding of yourself and of the things holding you back, your thoughts, feelings, values, and desires, so you can soar towards the best version of yourself. ISTDP
ISTDP is a type of psychological therapy based on neuroscience, attachment and psychodynamic theory. It works from the theroy that most psychological problems we face are due to attachment difficulties we experienced in childhood and are maintained by an over reliance on defences* which are no longer helpful.

A strength in ISTDP is providing ways to deeply understand oneself and being authentically able to express and feel your way to maintaining good mental well-being. Defences such as self-attack, avoidance, suppressing or "not having the time" impacts our relationship with ourself and our inner world that leads to distressing symptoms further impacting physical, emotional and relational health. These defences can also manifest as depression, ADHD, overthinking, people pleasing, anxiety, substance and body image concerns.

Research has demonstrated that ISTDP is effective in treating a wide range of psychiatric and psychological difficulties such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and eating disorders, as well as in treating medical conditions where no underlying physical cause has been established: “functional neurological disorders” (e.g., fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, migraine headaches).

*Defences are psychological, emotional and behavioural mechanisms that enable the avoidance of emotional pain stemming from earlier attachment relationships.
What to Expect?
The first session will explore what has led you to seek therapy with a focus on the emotional aspects of the challenges you are currently experiencing. In addition, we will explore the relationship with yourself.

By the end of the first session, we will make sure that we are the right fit for each other, that we have a shared understanding of the challenges you are facing, explore the barriers and patterns that are getting in the way of your goals, make sense of areas of your life you feel "off" or "confused" about, and establish a clear pathway of how to achieve your goals.
​
Our subsequent sessions will be driven by you and I will be working towards helping you achieve your goals, overcome your emotional challenges and help you move past repetitive challenges you are facing in your life.
​
Additionally, I utilize evidence-based compassion focused techniques to collaborative enhance self-compassion, self-care and self-love to provide a safer nurturing and a stronger purposeful inner experience that is important for safety, trust and wellness.
